Tristar and perhaps other Hayward owners tips

After chasing a maddening cavitation issue...

Replaced internal parts (impeller, diffuser, wear ring)
    blew out lines
checked pressures on both sides of pump
everything based on extremely valuable tips from pool boards...

Maybe its all pumps... but the tristar apparently no longer likes its basket. I noticed one of the reinforcement ribs bent on the impeller side of the basket that keeps the walls on it straight. This was based on a local pool techs phone call to check the basket and or run the pump without it...

started pump up with removed and immediately 25 pounds back from 8 and flow is normal again...

Sometimes the easiest way is right under the lid.... greatly relieved...

    Welcome to TFP!!!

You should certainly not be running the pump without a basket installed in the pump as it seems you are suggesting. Hopefully you just replaced the basket.

Apologies for the lack of clarity, am familiar with how it all works

It was a troubleshooting step under advisement of longtime local pool company.

    basket removed/problem gone
    basket back/problem back

Basket warped and curved on one side, clearly the cause of disrupted waterflow. Local pool tech said had seen it before with the tri star basket. No onsite, no fee, great service...

ordered new basket... old one is back for now with pump on low in the meantime...
