I assume it is mechanical and not electronic. Are all the timing lugs tightened down?

What model timer? Did it ever work right? What do you mean by "checked all the wiring"?

The timer is an intermatic PB314E. It has post on it for wires. Yes all the contacts are clean and snug. They are the clip on type not the screw on.

You replaced the timer and it still doesn't work?
Did you replace the entire timer?

Let me see if I get this right.

It will turn on the pump but won't turn it off?

It will not turn on the pump nor turn off the pump automatically which is what it is for. I have a switch between the timer and the pump that I have to manually turn on or off.

    Re: Troubleshooting pool timer.

I read some place that intermatic timers have two different time trippers. Some are silver and some a gold, IIrC. One set is slightly longer than the other and the short ones don't work correctly in long arm switches.

    Re: Troubleshooting pool timer.

This is an electronic timer, so it doesn't have trippers. I have read the same thing about the mechanical timers though.

    Re: Troubleshooting pool timer.

Sorry...missed that. I have a Woods timer that is electronic but if you power up the timer in the middle of a on-cycle, it doesn't power on until the next on cycle. I don't know that applies to this situation
