With an auto pilot digital on the Total Control setting.... How important is
It to maintian the alkalinity at 80?

I have found Recently as the muriatic acid is being added to control the Ph @ 7.4
I am having to add sodium bicarbonate on a regular basis.
I am figuring if I keep the alkalinity around 50-60 that will keep the ph levels
From increasing quickly and then the muriatic baths will not be running as often.

Toughts?

You never want the TA at 80 with a SWG, you want it around 60 without broates, or 50 with borates. Also, the whole system will be more stable if you raise the PH set point to 7.5 or 7.6. AutoPilot recommends 7.5. Regardless, you will still need to add baking soda regularly, just not as often as you do right now.

Thanks,

But a well trusted auto pilot technician highly recommended to set the ph
At 7.2-7.3. According to him this will help the Orp probe to read clearer.

But anyway, thank you for the confirmation on my thoughts on the alkalinity.
