Time to SLAM

UPS just arrived with my TF 100. Here are the initial test results:

FC - 9
CC - 3
PH - 7.2
CYA - 50

Looks like raising the FC to 20. Not as bad as I thought it would be. I currently have 2 121oz bottles of 8.25 Bleach. Any ideas how many bottles I should pick up to keep the process going?

Is there a back story to this? Why do you need to raise the FC to 20 ppm?

Algae is present and the pool water is cloudy. Prior to finding this site, I was using the store bought chemicals. Cost me a small fortune and did not do anything to improve the situation.

I am guessing that I have established the shock level. Water appears clearer after 90 minutes but still cloudy. I guess I will check the FC later this afternoon, unless anyone thinks it should be done sooner.

5PM test results. Still holding FC - 20 CC - 0. I brushed the bottom of the pool. Stirred up the gunk and now it is cloudy. But then I expected that!

Ok I have a couple of questions. First when is it safe to enter the pool. Second after the slamming has done its job, how long does it take to get the FC back to 6? Thanks in advance

It is safe to enter the pool when your FC is below Shock level, and above your minimum. The chlorine should come down fairly quickly.

Here is a picture of how the pool water looks now. An improvement since yesterday at the start of the SLAM it was green.

What type of filter do you have? If you have the Intex cartridge, I hear that Unicel and Filbur (at least I think it is Filbur) make cartridges that filter much better than the Intex, and are also reusable. If you have the Intex sand filter, you may want to try adding some DE to it.

I have the Intex A Cartridge type. I removed the filter this morning, cleaned it out and replaced it. I have heard good things about the Unicel filters. I am planning on upgrading to them once my stock of Intex filters is gone.
