Sand filter air release valve shooting water when closed

My pump is on filter and water is squirting out of the air release valve. I twisted closed as hard as I could but couldn't stop the water from coming out. Both of my skimmer baskets were/are clean when I turned the pump on. I've googled and can't find any information on why it would be doing this. The diverter valve (pentair 262506) is brand new and it hasn't done this before. Any ideas?

Sounds like a nicked or displaced o-ring. Unscrew it all the way and inspect it and lube it when putting it back in.

Thanks, it was the O ring! I was freaking out and hoping it wasn't anything big since we just replaced the valve.
