Copper or rust stain

Hi All:

I just noticed I have a dark brown/rust spot on the side of my pool wall. In fact it looks like whatever it is burned a hole in my liner. Its just one spot and a few days ago I noticed it. At first it looked kind of fuzzy and I brushed it now its stained and there is a little tear in the liner. Is this a copper stain? Any idea what could have caused this?

Sounds like a problem with the wall behind the liner. Copper stains aren't red.

what could be causing the problem behind the wall? The color is dark brown, not red. What does a copper stain look like? What else could it be?

BTW I should add that I recentlt used powder shock to bring my FC up as my salt cell has been giving me problems and my PH was pretty high recently. PH is back down to 7.4 and FC is back to 3.

just another thought.....Could my problem be that I had a tear and that the metal wall behind the liner had caused the liner in that section to stain?

Copper stains are spread out and mottled looking, not spots.
