You could use a 3-way valve if you wanted to. That would make it easier to adjust the flow between the two. Instead of having to adjust two individual valves, which can be tedious.

does lowes sell three way valves or would that be something i need to get at pool store
I just bought a 3-way valve at my pool store, it was $13.95 for a HydroTools 1.5 inch.
one more question guys my plumbing now is 2 inch pvc coming from nat gas heater going back into pool. the connection to the waterfall is 1 inch. what im not sure about would it be better to reduce close to where i tye into current plumbing down to 1 inch then run to waterfall or should i run 2 inch as far as possible then reduce down to fit waterfall. from pool return now to where waterfall will be placed is around 15 or so feet thx
1" should be plenty for that waterall so I'd reduce close to the control valve and run 1" from there.
yeah thats what i was thinking. plus 1 inch would be a whole lot easier to work with. thx
I did a similar setup for waterfall with just flex pvc/quick connects so i could disconnect both ends for winter/ball valve to just turn falls off/on as needed and to adjust the flow rate as it can get loud when on full blast and sometimes you just want a soft background waterfall effect.

i am very happy with it . heater actually seems to work betterrunning waterfall i turn it on and run 50 50 through return and waterfall. i guess it gets circulatrd better?
would like to get some faux rocks and set around it to soften it a little but wow the price is high
Very nice job! I have a railing edge across the pool from my waterfall that i was able to discretely ziptie some powerful solar spotlights on to that shine on the waterfall at night and light it all up (without shining in the eyes of those on the observation deck side) It was difficult to light from the same side as falls on mine and i didn't want to mess with electrical close to the pool. I bought them in a box 2-set from walmart that say they are rated as "brightest".
