It happens sometimes. Maintaining proper FC usually usually repels bugs from getting in the water. In cases where a bit more "persuasion" is needed, borates can help.

Last time I tested, couple months ago my borates were at 50. Think I should raise it?

    You're done SLAMing when:
    1)You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & 2)You have .5ppm CC's or less, & 3)your water is clear.

I think this just happens sometimes. For me, this year I have been having those bugs that walk on top of the water. I don't think they bite, so I am not too concerned.

Most of those underwater bugs eat algae and other organics. Since you keep a clean pool free of organics, the bugs move on fairly quickly. Most often within a few hours.
