Pool Build Journey

Hey -

Just realized I never posted the pictures of my pool build. In year two of a multi-year journey :)

Placement, that tree and it's roots are long gone now:

The reason I bought the pool was so I could rent a bobcat :) Had to get the smallest one possible to fit through my gate.

Moved a little bit more:

Last sand truck leaving, thank goodness!

Getting ready to start the leveling, still some extra dirt kicking around. Didn't want to go too deep with the bobcat:

First circle leveled, bubble is inbetween the lines the whole way around:

Second circle started, but it was 35C outside (95F) so I decided to stop. Almost done this circle:

Now to finish the second and third circles, then to make sure there are no gaps underneath the 2x4.

My pool getting filled by mother nature before I had a chance to install my pool

Doing the final level, I must have checked it a hundred times between the level and transit:

The outside done with crusher dust:

The amount of nuts and bolts just for the side support system:

And finally one side completed:

So got the side supports up:

Foam:

Then the walls:

Then checked for level, this was nerve racking:

I also checked it with a transit to be doubly sure.

Now the liner is in, and most of the top plates:

But once I got to the last piece, and I had an awful bow in the wall:

I had to "losen" of the top plates to consume this bow. Then I ended up with the top plate not being expanded enough to fit the last piece:

So I losened it a bit more and voila!

I put an inch or so of water in, and tonight will try and get the rest of the wrinkles out, then continue the filling!

Water going in, liner looking pretty loose:

About 8-10" of water in now, and liner is tight:

The boys are in and out of it all the time. Me too I must confess. It's a great way to cool down while working on the rest of the setup.

The making of a deck:

Lots of blocking to make for a sturdy handrail!

Got the stairs installed:

And the access panel for my skimmer:

The making of a deck railing:

Note this one is at night, some people came over and I took a wee break (and a swim!)

I had to tie into my existing deck railing, until I replace it to match:

One interesting thing is whoever built my deck, sucks. They used more lag bolts then they use in a sky scrapper, yet you blow on the railing and it shakes. My railing is not yet bolted in, and solid like a rock.

And the picture of the deck completed!

The flow of water to/from solar:

Now, this is from "year 2" :)

Started the remainder of the deck after taking the railing off:

Deck boards going on during a water fight:

Back set of stairs almost done:

Temporarily rigged up the slide, just to wrap my head around it:

Next is to finish the slide rige, then get water to it! Funnn stuff

Looks nice! We have a round ABG, wish we had room for the oval.

The cover reel is a big bonus with a deck like that.. we did a narrow decking and railing all the way around our circle, what a pain to take that cover on and off! I've got to dream up something easier one of these days!

NICE setup! what kind of piping did you run for the solar? Did you tie into the return with a ball valve so you can divert to the panels during cooler months and by-pass during the summer? I'm thinking of picking up a pair of 10' panels to use during early May to get the water warmed up.

Here's a pic of the piping. It's 3/4" (I think). Next year I'm going to upgrade it to 1" (or 1.5") PVC. I should have did this in the first place, but whatever :)

In the image you can see three valves. The middle one controls the flow to the panels and pool. Typically I have it 3/4's closed (ie sending most water to the panels) because my wife enjoys the pool warmer. When it's really warm (like this week) I had it fully open, so water was going to the panels and to the pool.

I've been really happy with the solar. It really helped early on in the season, and I'm guessing late season it will too

Your project is looking great. Definitely upgrade that 3/4 run to the panels to at least 1.5" so that you can get more flow rate through the panels. I think it will result in you will getting quite a bit more heat.

I see that you used what I think are called "deck blocks" for you foundation. It looks like you put something below them? What is it?
