    Re: Pool pump

Just to add further confusion ... why not Pentair? Or Jandy?

In reality they are all likely fine.

    Re: Pool pump

Waterway is kind of a "lesser" brand (IMHO ... I could be wrong ) ... so they are likely a little cheaper. Although many members use them.

I would certainly suggest sticking with a 1HP 2-speed at the largest.

    Re: Pool pump

I like the idea of energy efficient but they are a bit expensive....(in the short term I suppose). And Hayward? Can get it delivered by Friday. Are there any other considerations I need to think of regarding the filter unit?

Whatever you like. Bigger is better in the filter.

Are you happy with what you have now ?

    Re: Pool pump

I noticed the Waterway 2-speed 1HP pump only draws 8.8amps@115v at the higher speed while 2.2amps at the lower speed. A similar 1HP Pentair Dynamo or Hayward draws around 11amps. Why the big difference?

    Re: Pool pump

All 1HP pumps are not created equal ... different wet ends will cause different power requirements ... and often they post inaccurate data online.

But the 1/4 power draw on low vs high is normal. Low moves 1/2 the water. So even doubling the run time on low will give a 50% power use reduction.
