I'm going to install a new 2 speed pentair pump (wfds-4) and it included the Hi/Lo toggle switch on the motor. My question, when swtich the pump speed, do i need to turn off the power first? or i can change the speed when the pump is running?

I didn't receive the pump yet. From the website it said the switch toggle for high and low speed. I want to know when we change the speed, do we stop the pump first? I can stop the pump from the timer.

From low to high I don't turn mine off and it goes smoothly. From high to low I pause a beat in the off position to let the flow slow, then I switch to low. The hoses seem to hammer a bit if I don't do that. Not sure if it is an actual problem but it's no effort for me to pause a beat so I do.

Usually these switches have a center Off position. I switch mine from low-off-high and back again pretty quickly with no ill effects

Yes, you can switch the speed while it is running. Most pools with controllers do this automatically.
Switch with my Superflo does not have an OFF position ... I switch with the pump on with no problems ... now the ProLogic does the same.
Mine only has high and low. I have been shutting off to switch to low. Now that I don't have to shut everything down, I will probably switch to low more often.
Runs 12 hours a day. All except about 3 minutes a day, when I check the pressure gauge to see if I need to clean the filter. It goes from low, to hi, back to low. No issues.
