I heard this program on NPR today, and immediately thought of some of the posts I've seen on TFP! I think I've been spending more time here than I ought to.

The long and short of it:
Toxic water in an abandoned mine.
Geese land in water.
Biological agent from geese (matched against rectal swab from said geese) consuming an unprecedented amount of metals present in the water.

Who knows maybe some of the research stemming from this discovery may help with water treatment methods, and eventually a cost effective way to remove metals from pools.
I thought it was interesting.
