    12x22 ultra frame pool pump

Hi the tfp friends!! Do any of you who have an ultra frame or larger frame pool use the cartridge pump with the inwall skimmer that comes with it? Or has everyone upgrade to a pump and sand or de filter? Wondering if we can get away with using the cartridge filter for this year as we have a lot of work and cost cut out for us with the pool as it is without re doing the pool plumbing as well. But if it means the pool will be better off then we will do it!
13 x 24' x52" ultra frame pool (still in the box)
Going to be set in 2.5' hole with deck at rail height sourounding entirely
Cartridge filter ( we will see how that goes for one season)
Natural gas heater and solar cover
Plan to use bbb method! Yay!!

The best thing to do is try the filter and pump that it comes with and if it doesn't work then get the larger unit.

The first 2 years i used the cartridge filter that came with the pool it was okay untill i got algea then when i tried to vacuum the dead algea i noticed that everthing was returning back to the pool.so this year the first thing i did was to get the intex 2650 sand filter and it has been working really really good

Re: 12x22 ultra frame pool pump

Would it be possible to use a pump and sand filter from an inground pool on my intex pool? I was reading pool school and it was explaining the difference between the two and now I'm just not sure if you can interchange them.

Re: 12x22 ultra frame pool pump

There is a lady who has filled in the pool in her yard *gasp*.

She is playing kinda hardball considering there are probably only a handful of people around the area here who have or want to have a pool. She is saying she paid 700 for the pump and only used it one season. She wants 400 for it and the sand filter.

Re: 12x22 ultra frame pool pump

Do you think that a 1/2 hp pump is enough for the 12x24 foot pool?

Re: 12x22 ultra frame pool pump

I think I would just invest in a new pump for my pool as you could get one cheaper than 400 and not have to retrofit. Check Amazon for the intex sand filter for your pool. Or check on craigslist for a used one. Still the 400 may seem reasonable but for youyr pool a new one cheaper seems a better deal

Re: 12x22 ultra frame pool pump

Do you know the make and model of the pump. Some 1/2 hp inground pumps can move quit a bit of water (maybe more than you need/want).

Do you know the size of the filter?

Re: 12x22 ultra frame pool pump

I think connie is right. I looked at a few websites today and I can get a brand new pump and filter set for under 400$ and then I have some peace of mind that its new

I will post the brand we plan to buy as soon as we narrow down the choices.

I guess that should be obvious from your title

That pool should be around 8600 gallons. So we would recommend as minimums:
    • 1.6 sq. ft. sand filter
      128 sq. ft. cartridge filter
      24 sq. ft. DE filter

Although the Intex 2650 filter pump combo is a little small for your pool (1.4 sq. ft. sand filter) it would be a good value and can usually be found for under $200 (sometimes under $150)
