Having a problem with cloudy water, chemical levels seem good the sand in my sand filter is about 8-9 years old could this be the problem? Also what sand is best to use
Unless something goes wrong, there isn't normally any reason to ever change the sand. Most of the time the filter fails before there is any reason to change the sand.
^ What they said about not needing to replace the sand except in rare instances.
Sand filters can use a good cleaning once a year by removing the filter cap and using a garden hose with a gentle flow of water (pump s/b off when doing this). This Post goes into more details on this cleaning process.
