Safe for kids to swim while doing this process?

I didn't see that addressed in the how to in this thread: so-you-want-to-add-borates-to-your-pool-why-and-how-t4921.html But probably not safe. The pH may be swinging all over the place and the water could get cloudy. Tough on skin and eyes.

If you mean using Borax to raise pH, that's fine; just give it half an hour to mix first.
