I have the hose hooked to the vacuum with pole attached. The hose is filled with water. I was told to put the other end of the hose into the hole right directly under my skimmer but there's no suction. Is there something else I'm supposed to do?

please descibe..........."under" your skimmer. Did you mean under the skimmer basket?
Hmmm are supposed to at that point plug the skimmer? What is in the bottom of the skimmer?
I think you may have to rotate your skimmer cover by 1/2 and set down into the skimmer itself. Is there an arrow on your skimmer cover?
When I lift the basket out there's just a hole there. There is isn't a valve or anything.
There is a vac port under the skimmer on the inside of your pool, correct? Do you have a small adapter that sticks into the the vac hose and then into the vac port?
I figured it out! I had to turn the pump off then put the lid to the basket down inside, then turn it back on. Thanks for helping!
YIPPEE! You got it. I have a Doughboy also but mine is quite a bit older than yours. Installed in 1985.
