Actually that's really my question. Just wondering which is more effective. I figured having the cover on would keep the sun from eating the chlorine, however I don't know if there are gasses created that need to be released.
Should I shock with the solar blanket on or off?

You will get a buildup of Combined Chlorine with the cover on, which may make you prolong the shock process unnecessarily.kwolfe said:
That said...if the cover's been exposed to algaefied water, it might not be a bad idea to let it get exposed to the shock level for a few hours at least.
