Pool should be full by tonight & hope to start the pump & filter for the 1st time. I went ahead & bought some of the stabilizer granules from Walmart. What's the best way to add these to the pool?

I got some of those too. The instructions say to slowly pour them in the skimmer, and that's what I did. I'm a newbie though, maybe there is a better way.

In a sock of some sort, hanging in front of a return jet. Also helps to give it a squeeze once in a while. If not practical, can put in sock in skimmer, but can't backwash for a week or so.

The sock full of it in front of a running return is the best way. Just give it a squeeze whenever you are near it.

I don't have a skimmer so "sock in front of the return" it will be ....
By "sock" do you mean a pantyhose stocking, a true cotton sock, or some other type?
I'll start adding it tonight so it will likely be unattended most of the night (no good squeezes) .. will this matter?
Also, can we swim while this is being added or must be stay out of the pool?

Doesn't matter that you can't squeeze it tonight!! Squeezing it is only a help, not a requirement. And yes, you can swim while adding it. Have the swimmers give it a squeeze every now and then.

If you poured it in the skimmer keep your pump running for atleast 24 hours.

That's perfectly fine. My advice about backwashing was to make sure he didn't backwash before the granules were dissolved or he'd lose the undissolved CYA. Sorry I should have made that clearer.
