Hi, in having a heat pump that my water flows through all the time when the pump is on, is it advisable to keep calcium levels higher than the minimum recommendation of 50 for a vinyl pool? Just wondering since I keep my calcium levels higher in my hot tub to help protect the equipment and so am wondering what the recommendation is for a vinyl pool.

Thanks much as always,
Jan

Calcium is not required to protect equipment. Calcium might be required to satisfy the conditions of your warranty, but doesn't make any actual difference to the pump, plumbing, heater, etc.

Low CH levels can damage plaster, and high CH levels can cause calcium scaling in any kind of pool. As long as there isn't calcium scaling, the equipment will be just fine.
