Do I need to add cyanuric acid before borax or not at all? I drained and repainted epoxy. in-ground 15K pool sand filter, tab chlorinator in line. North TX pool pool is partially shaded by huge oak tree
Borax has two functions. 1. Like duraleigh said, borax is used to adjust levels but we have see if your levels require it. 2. It looks like you chose to do optional borates back in 2011.
The optional borates is just that, optional. You can do it again if you want but it's not required.
On a side note, since you are using a tab feeder then you are adding CYA whether you want to or not. Eventually it will build up to an undesirable level.
I'd get that pool balanced and give it a couple weeks to get to know the chemistry before adding boartes. It will mean one less variable to worry about.
Sort of like having a honeymoon before you add kids to the mix.
