I would use a pentiar or a starite heater, they are both the same, the outer shell looks different, along with intelliflo's also by pentair. Pool looks great. Cartridge would want to be a 420sq ft or bigger. Make sure that the filter can handle the flow of the variable speed pumps. Check for warranties on whatever products you purchase, being that you are in CA you need to look at PG&E and see if they offer rebates for the hayward variable speeds. I believe they do.

Oooooh a slide!!! I like slides!!
Can't wait to see more pics!! Looks great so far!!

I can't really comment on the equipment other than to say you may be best to stick to a single brand for everything. My understanding is that a) if you buy 3 or more pieces from the same manufacturer your warranty is longer b) from an automation standpoint it may be easier. Perhaps someone else will step in with more on that.

There needs to be a like button. Cbink has a very good point about extended warranties when purchasing multiple items. And compatibility with a control is another good point, other interfaces for automation will work sometimes other parts are needed. But I like the idea of uniform equipment. Not hodge podge.

We ended up going with all Jandy equipment. From what I can tell all of the big brands seem prety equal. Although I'm sure they all have their plus and minuses.

I don't know enough about all the different brands but think you're all set with Jandy. My point was really that I'd advise sticking to a single brand as much as possible.

Looks really nice so far - when do they start the slide?

Jandy is part of Polaris/Zodiac, very good company with good products and very good reps too. If there are ever questions your pool builder cannot answer, ie questions about programming and automation, you can call there tech line and you could probably get a hold of a jandy rep that can help. You are in Gilroy and there are a lot of reps that pass through this area.

    hand carving of the rock's.

I can't say enough good things about the pool builder: Premier Pool's
They truly have some great craftsman! The guy who hand crafted the waterfall and slide (all by himself) I might add
    was an artist.
