Hey everyone... I just bought a house that has a pool, so I'm glad I found this board. Thanks in advance for your help, and your patience, with the n00b. :)

I seem to have the basics of the chemistry straightened out, thanks to a good pool store. (Apparently that's rare, based on the various "pool stored" posts I see here.) Started out with a yucky green pool -- previous owners turned off the pump and left it that way for almost a month -- but the store only had me add liquid chlorine and a small pouch of algaecide... crystal clear blue water for less than 20 bucks altogether. So far they've not tried to sell me anything expensive, so I guess I lucked out there.

I'll be asking some questions about heating, but I'll post those in the appropriate thread. :)

Glad to be here!

I agree you will still be better off reading Pool School and getting yourself one of the Recommended Test Kits.

Already you have bought algaecide, which is almost never needed ... chlorine works just fine and is cheaper.

So, I would not say they are perfect.
