pool pump timer

I need helpwith my pool pump timer. The timer turns on when manually turned on but when the black trip trips it off it will also turns the timer off. Then it wont turn back on until manually turned back on. If I manually turn the knob the trips will turn it on and off. I think the wiring to the timer is wrong. Can anyone help me

It sounds like the line and load wires are reversed. Do you have a picture of the wiring?
