Strange Stain, and another Stain.

Looking for suggestions.

As our painted pool surface degrades (the previous homeowner painted it about 8 or more years ago) there are a few types of stains appearing. Now it's possible, based on the condition of the rest of the house, that some ancient stains were previously painted over, and are now 'reappearing' OR we're just getting stains. Last year, the pool wasn't as well maintained as usual, due to health issues with both my parents.

# 1. A stain that looks rather like a compass. It was a circle, about an inch in diameter, with a cross through it, and it feels a little 3-dimensional. Now, the cross is beginning to spread. It's down about 4.25 feet deep, where the wall meets the pool floor. You can also see the bad paint job discoloring around it.

# 2. In the curved corner at the bottom of the shallow end (3ft.), about 18 inches wide, and also showing signs of wearing paint.

Any ideas? Do they look like anything particular that requires attention, or are they just cosmetic? Pool will likely be refinished next winter, but for now...what to do?
Thanks,
Alan
