I'm thinking about replacing my pump with a variable speed model, and I'm trying to get a handle on what plumbing I have. It's clearly a patchwork of changes, and it was recently "redone" right before I bought the house, though I don't know exactly what was done.
On the suction side, I have a floor drain and a skimmer, with one unused 1.5" metal (copper?) pipe and one 2" PVC. Is it more likely that there's a connection between the floor drain and the skimmer buried underground somewhere, or that the floor drain is perhaps disconnected? When there's debris on that part of the pool, I've never thought it was obviously being sucked towards the drain. I haven't tried to feel it with my hand yet since it's over 8' deep, but I don't know whether I'd even be able to tell.
Any guesses?
