Ideas about a leaking drain cap

We just filled up our pool this year and there's a slow leak from the drain cap. I saw on the internet I can get replacement drain caps, but not sure if I'll be able to get it on with the pool full. I tried putting something firm under the drain for counter-pressure, but that didn't seem to help. Any suggestions or ideas?

Welcome to tfp, lbslott

You should be able to block the hole from the inside with a bucket or a flexible peice of rubber, etc...to slow down the leaking so that you can change/fix your plug.

Is yours a screw on type? If it is, I would try some teflon tape on the threads before replacing it.
