My wife and friends put tanning oil on when laying out in my pool. The problem is that it is causing my sand filter to clog up thus causing the pool to appear cloudy and slow the pump flow until i backwash. I am having to backwash every 2 days. I read that i could add a few tennis balls to the pool and let them float around. Any tips or suggestions?..

Backwashing may not be removing all the oil/goo that might be accumulating in the filter.

Elavating your FC level to twice what is suggested may help quite a bit. It is perfectly fine to swim at those levels.
-I doubt i would win the battle by making them stop putting tanning lotion on. Doesn't seem reasonable.. I am looking into those skum balls.

I had the same question regarding the tennis balls. Was directed to the scumballs and they seem to work.
Perhaps if you just kept your FC high by careful measuring and dosing, the issue would go away. By far, that's the best fix, if it works.
I went and picked up one of those aqua ez pool cleaning balls from lowes. Hopefully this helps some. I probably need a few of them...
Buy a speedo or man thong, come out when they are there and start lathering on oil with them....maybe partake in some physical labor around the pool.
Now, assuming your an average looking guy and said women won't actually appreciate this, make a deal with her that you'll stop if they stop, if not than have a liberating summer in the banana hammock.

I hope your skin loves the sun if you do go that route!

Backwashing every two days is too often; it sounds like there's something else going on besides just tanning oil. Can you give us a full set of test results?
Ask them to let it dry before they enter the pool or get a bunch of scum balls. I have read that tennis balls do help.
