New Build in Michigan *Updated 7/24*

When we bought our house in 1998 this pool was already here and had seen better days at that time. We did many quick fixes over the years to keep it up but this year we decided it had to go.

Here is a pic before the removal started along with some progress pics....

More progress. The old fence also came down and is being replaced with new PVC fencing...

Re: Out with the old, in with the new

After a ton of research, searching and pool shows etc etc we found a local installer that does vinyl liner in grounds. We decided to go with a 16x24 rectangle with radius corners and a 8' wide fiberglass walk in step which will pretty much fit the footprint of the old pool.

We will be getting a Jandy sand filter with a 1 1/2hp pump, multi color led light, 4 deck jets, winter safety cover and adding some concrete were we have out existing deck. (I need to take more ground level pics). I plan to run a lighting circuit to the fence along with some speaker wire to the far side for some rock speakers or something.

Is there anything that would be recommended to do before or during the install for extras? I just want to make sure I dont forget something and have it be too late after the concrete is in. The install isn't scheduled to start until early July so I have some time yet.

I will get some more current pics and will add more as the digging starts.

    Plugs.

It's really easy to add some outdoor outlets when they're wiring it up. You might need them later for a blender, a TV, a submersible pump, maybe a weewhacker...

Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!

Yes that is a great thing to have. I plan to do outlets along the fence every other post or so.

Well, pool time is getting closer! The pool was delivered this morning and they plan to start digging tomorrow morning.

Here are some other angles of the back yard. The old ground level deck is now gone and I have a little conduit to install for electrical and speaker wire.

The pb made great progress yesterday. The rough dig is done and the pools walls are assembled. The wrong steps were sent out but the new one will be here tomorrow.

Nice looking work on what will be a beautiful pool! I would add that the boss doesn't appear to be interested in the manual labor as much as the supervision. She is already dressed for success....CEO material, no doubt.

What did your PB use as backfill? Mine is using dirt and evidently, this will take quite a while to compact. We are right around the same stage in building as you.

i Have very sandy soil so they used that to backfill. They did it in small lifts and used a plate compactor. It was solid as a rock before the pour.

The concrete is all done. I am very happy with how well it turned out. My wife will be happy that I won't be tracking so much dirt in the house anymore

OK, I'm confused?? Isn't the concrete last? Don't you do the bottom of the pool then the liner? Forgive my ignorance if this has already been answered.

I wondered the same, but with a vinyl liner, don't suppose it matters much.

It can be done either way. My pb likes to do it this way because he said doing concrete last makes a mess in the pool that can be a pain to clean up. With just the dust from the saw cuts, I can totally see that.

Re: New Build in Michigan *Updated 7/24*

I figured I would post an update. The pool is complete minus the heater which will be another week or so. The fence was installed yesterday but the gate won't go up until tomorrow so that the concrete has time to dry. We are very happy with how it came out and look forward to many new memories. No onto finishing up the landscaping and finding something to hide the pool equipment.
