Is the CYA granules or liquid? You would not use this if you are going to follow the dichlor method in that Temp Pool link.

You certainly should get some FC in the pool ASAP. Then add the CYA in a sock hanging in front of a return (assuming it is granules).

Tomorrow you can lower the pH and maintain the FC.

poolcalculator will tell you that. You have 0ppm of CYA and you should add enough to get to around 30ppm ... that is 13 oz.

I would not raise the FC up to 4ppm until the CYA is dissolved. Start with about 2ppm.

You can not use the tablets because your CYA is already in range.

With a CYA of 40ppm, your FC should never be below 3ppm. So you should target 5-6ppm every day to ensure it is not less than 3ppm by the next day.

To go from a FC of 0 to 5ppm is 25 oz of 8.25% bleach ... not sure where you got 3.9 oz.

Oh. Is there a reason you are not using bleach? The cal-hypo will add calcium to your pool, which you really do not need to worry about, but generally bleach is cheaper anyway.

You have to test everyday and ensure the FC stays above 3ppm. So, each evening, you should raise the FC up enough to get to 5ppm because it will be consumed by the sun and anything in the water over the next day. The idea is that by the next evening, you test, it is still over 3ppm and you add enough to get back to 5ppm.

To go from 0 to 5ppm you would need to use 4.6oz if 48% cal-hypo. But theoretically the next day you should only need to raise from about 3 to 5, so that would be 1.9oz by weight.

And you CAN NOT USE the tablets anymore ... or your CYA is going to get too high which will require higher FC and eventually your pool will be green and you will be back here trying to figure out how to clear it.

A typical pool will lose about 2ppm of FC in a day ... so to stay above 3ppm, you need to target at least 5ppm.

You want to use plain old bleach ... definitely not the scented stuff or anything that is "outdoor" or "thicker". What is the concentrated stuff? If it is just the plain 8.25% bleach, that is fine.

You can use the cal-hypo if you want, just no more trichlor (tablets) or dichlor which add CYA.

It would say it in the ingredients. If it does not list a strength it is likely some off-brand and the % is likely very low. Clorox will definitely say.

What do you mean "interchangeable"? They are different chemical compounds, but both will add chlorine. Do NOT let them touch each other as that can cause explosions (same with letting the cal-hypo and tablets come in contact).
