Hello

I have much to learn about pools. We are having our first one built. 24x32 feet, heated, saltwater, Gunite pool.

I would like to get suggestions on automatic vacuums, maintenance and other wisdom from the people here.

It should be completed some time this month.

Thanks for having me.

A couple of things that come to mind that you can, and should avoid:
1. Pump too big
2. Pump only single speed
3. Filter too small
4. Ozone
5. UV
6. Mineral systems

I see your build thread...post some details of the expected equipment and we can help check to see if it is suitable.

Hard to tell from your dimensions since you pool is irregular but I guess it is about 15000 gallons (I assumed 4 foot average depth). That is a medium sized pool in my view.

Assuming I am close on the volume then for filters we would recommend as minimums:
  • Cartridge filter: 122 sq. ft.
    Sand filter: 2.8 sq. ft.
    DE filter 42 sq. ft.

Assuming no high volume water features, for a pump, we would recommend something like the pentair superflo 2-speed 1 hp uprated or the hayward superpump 2-speed 1hp uprated. We might need more details on you system to confirm these choices.

So was I.... 4 months ago  Be advised.....

Get a detailed plans, get lien waivers, find out if the pool supervisor is present for the build, or shows up after the work is screwed-up. Does the builder subcontracted out the job or does the builder do the work with-in house employees . Mine was all subcontracted w/ little to no supervision, my pool was an 17 week nightmare...

It's finish now, but it still has issues (Quartzscape, Tahoe Blue) blotches and streaks :(

Be advised your pool steps will be 12" rise to run... (not like stairs in your house) it's a pool industry standard. I learned the hard way after the gunite was shot, my better half was not a happy-camper about this issue (one in a long line of issues) nor will be short people/the elderly/little kids. :grrrr:

Call all the builders satisfied customers/references PLUS research the company Name and its owners by name. Get your contract written "that all draws on work to be paid AFTER the work is performed" NOT BEFORE. Be advised you pay to much money upfront you have No power of the purse. Last draw check will to be paid until after pool start-up and plaster work is to your satisfaction.
