Need some help please

This is our first opening. Our pool was filled last fall but not until early November soit was ccovered and never used. We have it open now and am ready to start shocking. Here are my numbers...

CYA. didn't register at all, so less than 20
PH. 8.2

I reread pool school. I also went to the pool calculator.

I have never even turned on our sand filter before, so I need to hook that up, then was thinking of hooking up our bug vacuum to it. I could see the bottom clearly 2 days ago. Now, I can't. I need to add water, about 1000 gallons (pool holds 9800) I can also release some and add new if it helps. My husband is at the store right now buying multiple bottles of bleach. If I'm going torrelease water, I want to do that before treating.

Where would you start?

Get the pool circulating first and make sure equipment is good to go. Lower PH to 7.2 before shocking. Bring CYa level to 30 before shocking at that level. Start shock PROCESS!

And take pictures to document your progress. It helps to keep from getting frustrated when you can see the progress.

It'll take the CYA about a week to register on your test.(if you use granular)Just add it in a hanging sock in front of your return and assume it's at 30 for the time being.
