1 Hp Jandy pump

Based on my pool size @13,000 gallons I was recommended a 1 hp jandy stealth pump.. My question is.. I heard that a variable or a 2 speed pump is recommended for cost savings. Is it necessary on such a small pump?

It will save you money in electricity to go with a 2 speed, even a 1 HP pump can cost hundreds of dollars per year to operate depending you electricity cost, length of swim season, etc.

On low speed it uses 1/4 the power to move 1/2 the amount of water as on high speed. So even doubling the runtime on low to move the same water would be a 50% power savings.

Do you already have a pump you are replacing? Most 2-speeds are 230V, so it is a little more difficult to find the 2-speed pumps if you are only wired for a 115V motor.

No not replacing, going to be building and want to make sure I have proper equipment in place. I guess even at the small hp still makes sense for a 2 speed for savings.

Even the jandy stealth 1hp 2-speed is pretty big for your pool unless you will have high volume water features. If you want to stick with jandy, the flopro 1 hp 2-speed may be a better fit.

Will be using 325 btu nat gas jandy legacy heater. Cartridge filter.,I dont like the de filter due to backwashing will have waterfall feature over rock. Going with pebble sheen finish.

What will the volume of the pool be? Make sure they do not undersize your cartridge filter as that too can be a pain.

Approx 13 k gallons, what color is your pebblesheen?

Blue Granite

Make sure your Cartridge is at least 190 sqft for a 13k pool.

K thanks, we are thinking blue granite also. Are you happy with color? Do you have a picture?

It is a nice blue. We were looking to avoid any aqua/green.

Looks great from above! Ours is only going to be 5 ft deep. So i am hoping not going to look too grey.
