Molars to PPM Salt (NaCl) Calculation

This question is I think something chem geek will be able to answer, or others among you who are chemistry geeks.

The reason for this question is that it relates to another question regarding saltwater pools that I want to ask, but I want to make sure I am calculating correctly.

So here are two question:

If NaCl (Salt) has a molar mass of 58.44276 would 1.7 M of NaCl, in a 10,000 gallon pool, equate to 2624 ppm, and would 2 M of NaCl, in a 10,000 gallon pool, equate to 3088 ppm?

Thank you to those that can answer.

If you mean Molarity (which equals moles/L) then:

(1.7mol/L)*(63.55g/mol)*(1000mg/g)= 108305 mg/L= 108305 ppm or 10.83%
(2.0mol/L)*(63.55g/mol)*(1000mg/g)= 127100 mg/L= 127100 ppm or 12.71%

If instead of the above, you mean moles (not Molarity) then:

(1.7 mol)/(10000g)*(10000g/37854.1L)*(63.55g/mol)*(1000mg/g)= 285.3 mg/L = 285.3 ppm
(2.0 mol)/(10000g)*(10000g/37854.1L)*(63.55g/mol)*(1000mg/g)= 335.7 mg/L = 335.7 ppm

linen,

Than you for your reply.

I meant Molarity (which equals moles/L), and as the numbers are different from what I thought they might be I have no question to ask.

chem geek,

No, the question was for another reason, but as the numbers are different there is no question to ask. To check my salinity I use strips which were always close to the Taylor's salt test kit. Taylors salt test can no longer be legally shipped to Hawaii due, according to Taylor, new Federal regulations, nor can the iron test for the same reason.

Thank you both for your reply.
