The pucks will store for a long time ... and a good idea to use for vacations now that you will understand all the impacts of using them. And you do not want to use the dichlor if your CYA is already on the high side.

I think you can just turn the chlorinator off.

All the water now flowing through the drain piping and whatever gunk could still be there is certainly going to impact your FC usage for awhile as well.

I have this exact same problem with my vacuum suctioning to the bottom of my pool. It has slightly stuck in the last couple of years when opening with heavy algae and debris. I did fill filter with zeosand this year. That's the only difference I know of from past years.
