Stupid question - pool pump

Sorry in advance for the stupid question. I've never taken care of my own pool. Ever. I'm switching to SWG and want to do maintenance myself.

Does setting the percentage level/run time on the Hayward SwimPure/AquaRite control the pool pump and tell it when to turn on and off? Or, do I need to determine and decide (and set) when the pool pump should run?

I'm obviously a newbie.

But the pump run time is separate from the SWG % setting so you need to take into account both when setting the FC level.
