Beginner shock questions

1.) Are there any issues or side effects of shocking a pool (if done properly of course)?
2.) When adding lots of chlorine to shock the pool, is there any reason to add CYA? I do not believe so, just want to make sure you just use your current CYA to determine shocking level.
3.) After shocking the pool, can any remaining algae that is not brushed and vacuumed come back to life?

1) Recycle bins overflowing with empty bleach jugs. And friends inviting themselves over for a dip.
2) CYA should be 30ish to give some UV protection. If it's below that, you need to add some.
3) If you stay with it until all three criteria for stopping have passed, no. There is no more algae. Which is not to say that more will not get introduced via pool toys, neighbor kids who have algae in their suits from their murky pools, etc. But if you maintain the minimum FC it will get killed off quick enough you won't notice.
