Newbie with a question

This will be our second year with our pool. We got it used and really haven't had any issues with it at all. When we winterized it last year we knew we would have to replace the lateral assembly with pipe this year. We're going to have to remove all the sand from the filter in order to get the assembly inserted properly. Should I go ahead and buy new sand since it's got to come out anyway? It's 4 years old.

Any tips or suggestions for this process?

Thanks y'all.

No reason to replace sand. It existed a million years before your pool. 4 years in your filter isn't going to do anything.

Use a shop vac to get it out. Be gentle so that you don't damage any other laterals.

When you refill it, fill the filter halfway with water first. It will act as a cushion so falling sand doesn't damage your new laterals.
