Connecting a Hayward return fitting to standard threaded pip

I want to put a slime bag on the return line by unscrewing the eyeball fitting and connect a PVC pipe to the bag.

Apparently the fitting is a non standard thread though. This has to be removed and apparently once removed you have access to the regular standard threads.

This explains it a little better...

According to that thread there's a special tool to remove it, but the op didn't provide a link, and of course the thread is from 2006.

Does anyone know what tool I need for this?

Thanks!

Re: Connecting a Hayward return fitting to standard threaded

Usually you can get it out with a strap wrench. Finding the correct tool is difficult. I have heard of people grinding down putty knives to the correct width so they fit the notches.
