Returning dirty water to pool during backwash

I have a Hayward S244T sand filter and getting a good deal of dirty water returning to the pool while backwashing. I also noticed today there was some dirty return water while in waste mode. I first noticed this last year and seems as though it is getting progressively worse.

Not sure if this related, several years ago I had some leakage while in regular mode and the repair man put a ball valve in the line stop the leaking.

    Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like the spider gasket in your multiport valve is damaged, allowing water to "leak" within the multiport.

Fairly easy DIY project to replace it.
