small filter on bigger pool

I have a hayward perflex DE filter and a Hayward Power Flo LX 1 HP pump that I was using for my Intex metal frame pool the last few years. The kids outgrew the Intex so now I'm putting up a 21 x 43 oval pool. Looking around the board it looks like this setup is way too small for this size pool.

Is there any way I can use this setup for a little while until I get new equipment or will it be a waste of time to try it.

Your pump is a little big for that filter, but you should be ok, the filter shows a design flow rate of 38 gpm and that pump shows 60 gpm, which would likely be maximum flow rate with no back pressure from head, in the real world I suspect you will see somewhere around 40 gpm or less through that DE filter. The rule of thumb for sizing DE filters does not really apply to these bumpable Perflex filters since you can bump clean them part way between full cleanings.
