Last year I purchased and ran the LQ all summer. I also ran borates for the first time and had no white sediment whatsoever in my LQ. This year I see Wal Mart has slashed the price of the Intex SWG to $139! I can't buy liquid chlorine for anywhere near that price! So I'm going back to the Intex. I'm also thinking that the borates will prevent the buildup on the cell plates.

Borates can help with the ph rise due to using an swg, but are not required. Keeping TA low (60-80 ppm) also helps moderate ph rise.

I have the intex swg as well and really like it. Even though I have high fill water TA (and CH), I get TA down using the areation method and that combined with the Borates means I have not needed to acid wash my cell the last two seasons.
