I have finally got my pump and filter up and running, but when I turn it on filter, some backwash water comes out. I took the top off and checked the big O ring and it is in place. why would I have water coming out the back wash on FIlter mode

If you have a multi-position rotary main valve then it is probably a problem with your spider gasket (inside the rotary valve).

Thanks for your response. That is what the pool place said to, but be "clueless" on that, I decided to turn it to backwash for a few seconds and that did it. There must have just been some water in there that was coming out, but once I did a backwash the problem stopped.
