Replacing Filter Grids

If you have never taken them apart, pay attention to how the grids fit in the lower plastic piece and note where the short grid ends. The inner part of the grids fit in a little 90 degree notch and then curve to the outside. Don't forget to have the center bolt sticking up from the start. The top should then sit in the grids with as little wiggling. Then don't tighten the nut too much. Make sure you lube the o ring on the stand pipe in the filter. And finally use a mallet to tap around the band so you do not need to use a lot of force to tighten it.

This really should be done once a year to gives the grids a good clean.

I found it to definitely be easier to stand all the grids on the lower piece and then set the top on. I think you would struggle getting things to line up if you tried to do it upside-down.
