inground light trim not flush

Our pool was recently replastered, and two new 100w halogen light/niches were installed. I just noticed that the trim on either light does not sit flush on the plaster, going from contact to as much as 1/3” gap between plaster and the underside of the rim. Is this normal, or should there be a somewhat higher tolerance? Is it possible the trim or light simply needs to be adjusted?

For a newly installed light the trim should be within 1/8". There is no real harm from a poorly fitting trim ring, but the installer should have been able to do better. I would contact the company that did your work and see what they have to say about it.
