Hayward Cartridge Filter Leaking

I just bought a new unicell filter to replace my old one and after putting the new one in, I noticed the hayward cartridge is leaking and I cannot get it to stop. I tried to reseat it plenty of times and messed with the air/pressure valve plenty and cannot stop it from leaking. What do I need to do?

Did you lubricate the o-ring with pool and spa silicone lube when you reassembled it?

No I did not as the black oring around it seemed to be slick

That would be the problem. Go ahead and get you some silicone pool and spa grease at the pool store. Then take the lid back off and apply a liberal amount of it all over the o-ring. Then reassemble and it should be good to go.

Thanks I hope that's all it is in the meantime before I can get to the pool store, would dishwashing soap work temporarily?

I used some dishwashing soap tonight to test it, it seemed to work! Thanks for the help!!

The problem with dishwashing soap is that it will wash off, dry out and possibly attack the rubber.
