Is it OK to backwash before disassembling/cleaning filter?

I have a Pentair Quad DE Cartridge filter and I am about to venture out on the first disassembly and full cleaning of the cartridges. I was thinking of backwashing the filter before I disassemble it to remove the largest debris and spare the dirtiness in the yard, but was wondering if there are any drawbacks to that approach?

Hey Martin, I have a 48 sq in Pentair DE filter, and that is what I do before I clean it, I backwash about 3 time until I can't see anymore dirt coming out, although, even know you backwash, be prepare to have clumps of DE, dirt etc. when you remove the cover, I usually throw this stuff in a 5 gal bucket, then into my trash
