My cell died last fall. I am now looking to replace it. I have looked through the forum and I believe that in addition to adding a 3rd port on the cell Jandy has also gone from 2" to 2-1/2" connectors. Can you please confirm this? Also below are a couple of shots of how the cell is currently plumbed.

If I have to use 2-1/2" connections I assume that I will have to reconnect from the valve to the elbow with 2-1/2 to 2" reducers correct? Can you please advise on how the plumbing should be redone to handle the new cell?

Thanks

I believe that the newer 3 port cells have unions that can be connected to either 2" or 2 1/2" pipe. However both the unions and the distance between them are slightly different than what is used with the older 2 port cells, so you will need to do some minor plumbing to fit the new cell in.

From you photo, the main issue is likely to be: is there enough pipe between the SWG and the automated 3-way valve to cut the old union out and glue the new union in without having to replace both 3-way valves.

According to Jandy, if your existing cell uses 2" PVC Male (black) couplings then the new cell will fit the existing unions (if you replace the O-ring, which comes with the new cell), but if it uses the 1.5" ABS Female couplings it needs to be cut out and replaced. Yours look black in the photo, so you may have a very simple upgrade.
