Total Chlorine is Very Low But Free Chlorine is High??

I am a little confused. I just tested my pool and the results are as follows:

Hardness:250
Total Chlorine: 0.5
Free Chlorine: 3ppm
PH: 7.8
TA: 180
CYA: 50

I know that I need to bring the PH down and the TA. But, how is it that Free Chlorine is high but total is low? Any suggestions on what to do? Will Ph Down bring the TA down too? Also, how soon after adjusting should I wait to swim? Thanks

Something about the test is wrong.

FC + CC= TC

TC can never be less than FC.

What kit are you using? Can you describe how you got the chlorine numbers you reported?

I am using a 6 way strip kit, and I used the numbers that correspond with the colors. I was kind of wondering if it was the kit too.
