Plumbing Question ??

I have to cut the gray pipe coming out of the heater to plumb in a SWG cell.
Is the Gray pipe CPVC ? I can see some copper specks through to gray.
If so what glue to use ?? Looks like there might be some kind of sealent used as the joint has a with ring around it . (See pic )

Its the pipe coming out the heater the shorter one..

Yes, gray pipe coming out of the heater is almost invariably CPVC.

You use universal cement to bond PVC to CPVC.

I don't see a picture.

Having pic problems .. Over 512 mb
I have to go back to 1992 to get a camera that uses less than 512 !!!!
So just cut it sand down the ends a little by hand , prime and glue ...
Will Christies red hot work ??

Home Depot will have Oatey PVC All-Purpose Cement, which is fine.

Every brand calls it something a little different. "universal" is my personal generic name.

Depending on your climate, you will want to use a medium bond pvc. Hard bond cements will actually crack in cold temperatures and break pipes when it gets very hot out 100F+ because it does not expand and contract at all. Most All purpose cements fall into the All Purpose category.
