38000 gal - taylor k-2006 test kit 20 drops of r0006 still

Re: 38000 gal - taylor k-2006 test kit 20 drops of r0006 sti

Is there a question in here ;)

Baking soda raises TA more than any affect on pH.

Are you happy that your FC is zero? Or is that a sarcastic Whoot :D

Here are detailed instructions:

I have not used the acid demand test, so not sure what 20 drops means.

Does your pH show at the bottom end? Usually the TA ends up very low as well, unlike your 100ppm.

This shows the chems needed to raise the pH ... soda ash is your best bet:

i thought cl lowered ph? i have been using baking soda to raise ph for the last 5 years - hmm been wrong for 5 years? lol at me if its true

What is CL ... we do not use that ... assuming you mean free chlorine (FC).

What type of chlorine do you use? Some is very acid and lowers the pH (trichor / dichlor), some is neutral (cal-hypo / bleach).

I have not used base demand either.

Baking Soda does not raise pH very much. Using the bottom of the poolcalculator.com:
6 lb of baking soda in your pool would raise the TA by 11ppm and the pH by 0.02
6 lb of soda ash raises TA by 18ppm and pH by 0.55

Re: 38000 gal - taylor k-2006 test kit 20 drops of r0006 sti

according to the pool calculator i will need 16 lbs to get to 7.5 assuming my ph is 7.0 -- can't believe it fell that far-i've had the pool 8 years and never had this problem before--weird--i will get some borax and see if it raises

Re: 38000 gal - taylor k-2006 test kit 20 drops of r0006 sti

borax adds borates which you do not want very high ... plus it acts as another buffer to pH and makes it harder to adjust TA and pH.

I would stick with soda ash / washing soda for now.

EDIT: Although in the quantities you are talking about, it will not raise the borates much, so either is fine.
